The woman who started it all
Dr. Marylin K. Volker
Dr. Marilyn K. Volker - the child of a Lutheran minister and later the wife of a Lutheran minister - was always interested in helping people in need. While still a minister's wife, she began a career as a sex surrogate partner - someone who works with a therapist to teach clients intimacy skills.
For over 37 years she's been a highly regarded sexologist. She helped establish the first LGBT youth group in Miami-Dade County in 1975. She has been a fierce advocate for the mental health of people living with and surviving loss from the AIDS/HIV epidemic. She remains a go-to educator for body changes, diseases, disabilities, and sexual health for many Miami area communities, including churches, synagogues, mosques, universities, and public schools.
Often considered the "Dr. Ruth" of Miami, her experience and good nature made her the perfect live call-in radio host for the "Sex with Marilyn" show.
